literary riddle

I'm increasingly afraid that my life will end up as a series of The Remains of the Day and "The Beast in the Jungle."

Why do I increasingly fear my Post Italy summer will intensely resemble The Graduate. And by that I mean, The Graduate without the affair with Mrs. Robinson. And without any sort of love. And with an added helping of feeling lost and confused.
